Let’s take a look at some of the merits of a torque converter-equipped CVT.
What is a torque converter?
Just as turning on a fan will cause a pinwheel to start spinning, a torque converter uses engine output to turn a pump, which in turn powers a turbine via a hydraulic coupling.
When the oil exits the turbine, it flows in the opposite direction to the pump's rotation. A stator is used to reverse the direction of oil flow, helping the pump to turn more easily.
This effectively amplifies the amount of torque transmitted.
